The Role and Requirements:

The Web Development Manager is well experienced in the required areas and is the primary point of contact for the Digital Marketing team and business units in the production of assets and processes for digital marketing campaigns. They report to the Digital Marketing Director and work closely with the Digital Marketing team and the individual business unit marketing managers to determine what is required to successfully achieve their digital marketing strategies.

This position lies at the core of Inmarsat’s digital marketing production. With hands-on experience and a background in web technology and digital media, they are responsible for the end-to-end management of digital creative production process and execution for central and business unit marketing teams, from asset creation and development right through to production and delivery. 

By using industry standard approaches to design, coding and leading web technologies across all digital channels and online communications materials, this role provides a pivotal link between our brand objectives and our offline communications to engage and further enhance our relationships and reputation with our global audience.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities of the role:

  • Manage Web Development team, ensuring quality, optimisation and best practice for digital projects
  • Work with the Digital Marketing Director to implement the strategy for externally hosted websites
  • Take ownership of our websites’ performances, managing the site architecture and expanding web content
  • Manage and implement digital solutions for the company intranet, when required.
  • Work alongside agency partners to apply SEO best practices to current external-facing websites and ensure their implementation on future website productions
  • Where necessary, develop, design and build campaign and event microsites/landing pages for the continual evolution and engagement of each business unit sector’s web content
  • Edit and manage brand imagery to fit within digital marketing campaigns for BUs and the Group
  • Provide guidance to the business unit marketing teams, throughout email campaign end-to-end processes, including: creative, development, analytics, and reporting
  • Work closely with key stakeholders to ensure new material and content is displayed in a timely manner and to a high standard
  • Apply creative and conceptual thinking to devise solutions for both Corporate and Business Unit emerging digital requirements, balancing user needs, business goals, budget availability and technical realities and working with stakeholders to secure the solutions’ production and implementation
  • Aid in the development of digital marketing knowledge and techniques across the wider marketing team, training and guiding on use of internal and external digital solutions where necessary
  • Collaborate with Conference and Events team to conceive, develop and solutions that enable event promotion, event registration and the dissemination of key event information to registrants
  • Evaluate user journeys to optimise campaign and brand engagement online and increase future B2B lead generation.
  • Provide web technical support for the business and advise on best practice to implement integrated digital campaigns – including liaising with external agencies on their behalf with regard to technical issues
  • Publish and provide insight on website and digital campaign analytics, using those analytics to improve usability, design and content of the website


Essential knowledge and skills:

  • Educated to degree level with excellent oral and written command of English
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience, working across digital marketing in a technical or development capacity
  • Ability to interact with technically-focused roles to deliver on key digital initiatives
  • Working knowledge of HTML 5,CSS 3, Javascript (Swift iOS and/or Android is a plus)
  • Strong experience in managing most popular web content management systems, including Wordpress
  • Google Analytics certification and experience with other metrics reporting tools
  • Strong knowledge of SEO and SEM and their technical applications
  • Effective at building positive relationships with an array of senior and junior stakeholders
  • Experience in teaching/training others in technical knowledge or skillsets
  • Excellent project management, organisational skills, good attention to detail and ability to deliver to demanding deadlines
  • Experience managing relationships with external digital agencies
  • Experience of working in an international business environment


Desirable skills

  • Experience in previous roles as a front-end developer with some background in marketing communications and/or marketing project management (experience in a FTSE 100 technology company would be a major plus)
  • Experience implementing SEO best practices
  • Ability to deliver under tight deadlines, in a transparent manner, utilising project management software to provide visibility of progress
