Job Description

Primary role purpose:

At Inmarsat we believe that by growing our people we grow Inmarsat. This role will be responsible for shaping the technical training strategy by defining and creating a technical capability framework, career paths and appropriate learning solutions for COO. This will be used as blueprint for all technical functions

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a thorough Technical Training Needs analysis for engineers of diverse specialisations
  • Partner with the technical functions to design and implement a technical capability and skills framework reflecting the functions’ operations
  • Create a Project and Implementation Plan of how to curate learning solutions for optimisation of current skills through suppliers, different types of training and certification/degree routes (e.g. conferences, online training, classroom training, internal experts)
  • Define budget needed to implement the project plan utilising part of the Apprenticeship levy
  • Create career paths and experience maps to support talent development and mobility within technical functions
  • Create a framework/tools for monitoring uptake and evaluating training interventions
  • Use a full range of learning theories, products & channels to ensure the best possible learning experience & to achieve effective transfer of knowledge, skills & behaviours within required timescales & budget
  • Work with Organisation Development peers to co create learning solutions
  • Help shape a culture of Continuous Professional Development

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent understanding of learning theory and training methodology
  • Experience with working collaboratively with Executives and Engineers of diverse specialisations
  • Technical education (satellite engineering related preferred)
  • Certification and/or experience in blended learning models, methods and technical training supplier market ( satellite communications, IT)
  • Consulting and project management experience working to targets and deadlines
  • Analysis and presentation of data to technical and non-technical audience
  • Proficiency in the creation of capability frameworks, career paths and training solution matrices
  • Seasoned facilitator of workshops


Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

The ideal candidate is an experienced technical training consultant able to communicate and influence at all levels of employees. They are able to work to targets and deadlines while demonstrating measurable outcomes.
