Job Description

Primary Role Purpose:

Reporting to the VP Solutions Engineering for Maritime, the Solutions Engineer will play a key role in leading the global maritime solutions engineering function.

This position will work closely with sales to solicit the customers’ most troublesome technical challenges, and answer with a presentation or demonstration as to how Inmarsat products & services will leverage their configuration flexibilities to address the needs of their fleet.

The majority of customer-facing interactions will be directly with commercial shipping operators. The role requires an individual with a proven track record of technical sales in the industry.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide sales, clients and partners with technical sales advice.
  • Capable of translating and explaining complex technical information to clients and partners, focusing on revealing how a product can solve specific problems.
  • Successfully match customer requirements to proposed solutions.
  • Create and deliver powerful presentations and demos that clearly communicate the uniqueness of the value proposition
  • Manage all technical aspects of RFP / RFI responses
  • Primary Solutions Engineer contact for the Maritime Energy and High end Fishery market sector.
  • Facilitate and conduct POC’s and Demos to customers and partners.
  • Using technical skills to demonstrate to potential customers the usefulness of the product or service and how it may suit the customer.
  • Contribute technical and programmatic content to proposal development; build and maintain a library of material for future proposals
  • Bolster technical confidence to achieve social comfort in the maritime technical sales arena.
  • Conduct product training to clients and partners.
  • Stay in-tune with market trends and technological challenges that may rise from a fast-paced ever-evolving industry, including but not limited to providing a consistent presence at trade shows and partner conference.
  • Nurture the technical relationships with partners and empower the technical sales team to maximize their Inmarsat experience


Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • 5+ year history of working in a relevant communications, network infrastructure or related computing infrastructure field (specific engineering experience relating to maritime sitcom is preferred)
  • Post-graduate education in Engineering or equivalent senior experience within a relevant technical field
  • Familiarity with current and developing protocols and specifications relevant to shipboard solutions and applications
  • Practical experience with user terminal hardware and firmware development for messaging applications
  • Proficiency with physical layer, network emulation, type approval, and software revision control tools
  • You will be able to fully engage, challenge and debate technical solutions with the Subject Matter Experts, both internal and external.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, willing to keep options open for as long as productive analysis is occurring, within timelines appropriate for the needs of the business.
  • Articulate and engaging written and presentation skills are considered gating criteria;
  • Experience providing technical advice/solutions on communication systems within the maritime sector
  • Technical fluency in core SATCOM functionality across various frequency ranges and packet delivery platforms
  • Industry-leading practical knowledge in multiple technologies, including but not limited to the following: Advanced Satellite Communications Theory; Global Terrestrial IP Infrastructure, TCP/IP Networking, Routing and traffic management; Cisco Network Design and QoS; iDirect Network Design QoS, Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM), Adaptive TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) and ABS (Automatic Beam Switching); Linux; Telephony (Analog, SIP, PBX/PABX, Analog-to-Digital convertors) and Remote Diagnostics and Support strategies, methodologies and capabilities
  • Structured and organized approach
  • Willing to travel internationally
