Primary role purpose:

Inmarsat Global Government is the leading commercial provider of Mobile Satellite Services to Governments around the world.  Inmarsat’s Global Xpress system is poised for significant growth in the converging Mobile and Fixed government satellite services sector.

This position is designed to act as one of Global Government’s Solutions Architects in support of the growth of the Global Government Land business alongside the Global Government Maritime and Aviation teams.  You will be responsible for creating innovative solutions based on the Inmarsat core network including contributing to the delivery of new products, to assist in the development of customer proposals and to help ensure their timely delivery. 

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a high level of technical skill & knowledge of the Global Xpress network and the core systems that support it.
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of Inmarsat’s L-band network especially where this compliments the use of Global Xpress.
  • Directly discuss, design and validate the network/service configuration and performance when delivered using the Global Xpress or L-band lease networks with potential customers, partners and internal technical and commercial stakeholders
  • Contribute to and help maintain the knowledge management and assist Sales Team with understanding the value proposition of Global Xpress and other Inmarsat systems. This will from time to time including being present in customer meeting and giving technical advice on solutions to meet their needs.  This will include international travel from time to time.
  • Coordinate with GX and L band leasing teams in Inmarsat in the development of solutions including the demonstration of new products.
  • Responsible for solutions design to support bids, proposals and quotations for global government networks and professional services including authoring sections of the proposals.
  • Participate in product demonstrations and pilot projects involving our partners
  • Create and deliver technical presentations to promote and educate sales teams, partners and internal stakeholders on Inmarsat’s products and services
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of key market domain dynamics (operational needs, constraints and tempo) , competitor activities and solutions used by government clients
  • Ability to assess and compare different satellite communication platforms, not limited to Inmarsat’s extensive product portfolio, and then offer to our partners the most viable technical and commercial solution as well as providing competitive analysis to the sales teams
  • Engage with multiple stakeholders on complex projects negotiating with all parties to define, shape and understand technical requirements and act as a trusted adviser to the user community on technical issues


The person employed would benefit from having the following knowledge and skills:

  • Solid experience of working with complex projects in a technical role in the satellite communications industry with a satellite operator or service provider
  • Excellent satellite communications industry knowledge; commercial instinct and foresight – customer-centric
  • Degree or equivalent work experience in communications/electronic engineering
  • Previous experience designing/selling/marketing telecommunications managed services based on VSAT technology (network architectures, modem systems and remote terminal technology) to customers, especially using iDirect networks
  • Familiarity with satellite link budgeting including TDM-TDMA networks.
  • Good knowledge of IP networks especially within government domains
  • Accustomed to working in cross-functional teams with competing priorities in an international environment and generating action
  • Highly motivated, results-oriented, dedicated and ownership taking attitude
  • Good analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Able to present a professional image and deal confidently with technical issues with international customer, partners and Inmarsat teams at all levels of seniority
  • Proficient IT skills: ability to use in-house software – predominately Microsoft Office programmes to an advanced level (particularly MS Excel and MS Word)
  • Fluency in written and spoken business English


Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Be technically fluent on all Inmarsat services and network infrastructure including L-band and GX networks
  • Experience of Network design and Network Operations with a global carrier
  • Previous experience of designing, operating and selling services based on iDirect products
  • Previous experience of designing, operating and selling services based on Inmarsat L-band products
  • Understanding of mobile satellite, fixed satellite and cellular industry (for example 3G, Cisco and iDirect technologies) or recognised niche systems integration activities
  • Knowledge of the Government market
  • Experience with MoD and NATO satcom community
  • Fluency in additional languages
