Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The Enterprise Solutions Architect forms part of the Pre-sales team and is dedicated to developing cutting edge solutions for the Managed Services department of the Enterprise Business Unit (EBU). The role of the Enterprise Solutions Architect is to analyse and define customer requirements so that you are able to convert capability shortfalls into needs and develop bespoke end-to-end design for EBU market focused solutions. Working closely with members of the Managed Services, Sales and Pre-sales teams, often under periods of heavy workloads and customer deadlines, you are responsible for the technical aspects of practical experimentation and rapid prototyping of solutions. You are also expected to contribute to the generation of new ideas and new applications for the Inmarsat portfolio.

As a senior spokesperson, market representative and customer evangelist, the Solutions Architect role encompasses technical ability balanced with the need to provide figurehead and thought leadership to the broader IoT market, plus directly to end user customers. The role will involve representing Inmarsat Enterprise capability at industry events and with senior representatives in partners, creating a credible and influential set of long term relationships.

Extensive international travel will be required.

Key Responsibilities

  • End to end ownership of Pre-Sales activities aligned to the MS sales function, inclusive of design, documentation, presentation and formalisation of the end solution.
  • Be the technical leader for design, implementation and recommendations regarding sustainable in-house standards and best practice IoT solutions for Enterprise markets.
  • Researching new technologies to optimize and expand the current IoT solutions ecosystem ensuring they are sustainable for the future, applying in-house standards and market best practices
  • Support the conceptualisation, architecting and development of new products, services and solutions in response to customer needs across Enterprise markets.
  • Deliver timely prototype solutions to characterise performance and allow internal stakeholder and customer evaluation via Proof of Concept trials prior to full solution development.
  • Provide BaU Pre-sales support for end user / managed services sales motions
  • Deliver final specification and component SoW’s for end user / partner solutions to enable accurate commercial costings of services.
  • Help steer the development of IoT solutions across the market sectors
  • Generate novel ideas and alternative network uses for the whole range of the Inmarsat portfolio, to provide high quality solutions and compelling offers into the market place.
  • Generate design principles and guidance for the overall architecture of Manged Services projects (technical infrastructure, data, hardware and software integration) and maintain quality end-to-end documentation and process delivery.
  • Prepare clear, articulate presentations on integrated solutions identifying the benefits to customer’s external and internal EBU sales team.
  • Act as EBU Managed Services and IoT market evangelist and spokesperson, building own network and community of influence and representing EBU and market events.

General Activities:

  • Support bidding activity with timely, accurate & well researched input to bid responses.
  • Support the sales channel with customer demonstrations and technical solution training as appropriate.
  • Support Sector team proof of concepts with qualification, design and success criteria metrics, provide oversight on commercial validity of solution.
  • Certify correct integration of different Software, Hardware, Network components forming the IoT solutions ecosystem.
  • Maintain an in-depth understanding of key solutions used by Enterprise market sectors.
  • Keep abreast of potential solution vendors that could be used to address specific requirements of customers.
  • Work with the Innovation and Capability team to define target technical and solution capabilities to compliment / fill existing portfolio gaps.
  • Be point person for marketing requests for technical input, solution and vertical use case scenarios.
  • EBU Spokesperson at market events, customer briefings, partner and end user presentations.
  • Establish peer to peer relationships in partners and end user customers that add credibility and additional insight.

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Degree level education.
  • Proven experience in Solutions Architect role in leading solutions provider.
  • Qualifications and training certification in Architect methodologies, solution design, standards and process.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing complex end user solutions to ISO standards.
  • Expansive knowledge the IT landscape, inclusive of of IP networks, infrastructure (On-prem & cloud), data analytics platforms, IoT device management and automation.
  • Good influencing and persuasion skills in both written and verbal communication.
  • Good organisational/project/stakeholder management skills.
  • Good interpersonal and rapport building skills.
  • Good decision-making skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken business English.
  • Experience in one or more specific IoT / embedded / M2M industry (i.e. home automation, business automation, health, asset tracking, smart utilities, etc.)
  • Experience in design, implementation and deployment of M2M/IoT systems
  • Working knowledge on IoT Strategy, standards, protocols
  • Experience building web services using JSON, REST, SOAP and other similar web service technologies
  • Experience working with customers to implement large-scale solutions
  • High level of comfort communicating effectively across internal and external organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies and learn quickly
  • Understanding of application, server, and network security and compliance requirements
  • Experience in embedded device programming, for example, Adruino boards, C++, Java or Python
  • Exposure to Sensor analytics
  • Deep understanding of IoT ecosystem, including M2M vendors, products and their capabilities
  • Knowledge of telecommunication network, M2M technologies, related standards/protocols
  • Detailed specific expertise of data storage, cloud computing, big-data analytics technologies.
  • Established thought leadership positioning, creating market visibility in given technology segment.
  • Public profile that adds credibility to Inmarsat EBU / IoT GTM

Desirable Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience of Inmarsat services and network infrastructuDesirable Knowledge and Skills:re including L-band and GX networks.
  • Understanding of mobile satellite, fixed satellite and cellular industry (for example 3G, Cisco and iDirect technologies) or recognised niche systems integration activities.
  • Experience programming applications backed by cloud services
  • Familiar with product offering from Actility, Sigfox, Foxconn, Ingenu & Libelium
  • Existing partner relationships in focus Sectors (Agri, Mining, Oil&Gas, Utilities etc)
  • Experience in implementing ISO processes and standards into an organisation
  • Design and running of IT Services on a global basis for Fortune 500 / FTSE 100 profile of organisation.
  • Language skills in either Spanish or Chinese
  • Existing relationships with appropriate partners in key markets; e.g. Agri-tech in Asia.
