Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The department of the Chief Product Office (CPO) located in Aalesund is responsible for development, testing and implementation of Products for Inmarsat’s maritime customers. The department has a near collaboration with other parts of CPO in London and Palm Bay, and with other divisions in Inmarsat, such as CTO, COO and Inmarsat Maritime. Important focus areas are; new product features for Fleet Xpress, introduction of Inmarsat’s Digital Platform, solutions for Inmarsat’s CAP program, automation of systems and processes, and enhanced use of Big Data to improve system knowledge and support.  As Senior Systems Engineer you will work in multiple projects related to the areas above, in a team with a wide range of technical competence - such as IP networks, satellite networks and terminals, servers and operating systems, and multiple software languages.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to development of new products, systems and solutions for Inmarsat Maritime, with special focus on FleetXpress
  • Contribute to the development and introduction of Inmarsat’s Digital Platform and CAP program in maritime products
  • Help establish best practises for system testing, commissioning and monitoring. The team has high focus on atomization of test and commissioning procedures, as well as improvement of management and monitoring tools both ship-side and shore-side
  • Build proof-of-concepts of new product features and new applications. Perform end-to-end prototype tests and engineering alpha tests.
  • Contribute to generation and maintenance of product documentation
  • Ensure proper handover between the Product Group and other departments in Inmarsat, such as Inmarsat Maritime and Inmarsat Operations

 

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of TCP/IP networking protocols and solutions
  • Hands-on experience with configuration and test of VSAT and FleetBroadband equipment is preferable
  • Theeoretical and practical knowledge of Linux OS, KVM, Docker and similar
  • Working knowledge of scripting solutions, i.e. Pyton, Perl is preferable
  • Working knowledge of program languages such as Java, C#, C++ is preferable
  • Knowledge of big data systems and monitoring tools (i.e. SPLUNK) is preferable
  • Master or Bachelor level of technical education
  • Fluent in English, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and self-driven
  • Positive and friendly attitude towards colleagues, customers and suppliers
  • Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good organizational and structural capabilities
  • Enthusiastic and capable of changing routines to be more efficient
  • Ability to follow new technology trends and evaluate relevance for Inmarsat
