Job Description

Primary role purpose:

Working from within the Service Assurance function, the role will be responsible for project managing the successful delivery of selected Service Assurance projects and work packages to provide solutions that support both business operation improvements and product and service delivery.

The role will be required to manage projects through approval, definition, development, acceptance and operational handover, both as stand-alone projects typically supporting business operational requirements, or as part of a wider business programme to introduce new products and services.

Role will be accountable for managing multiple concurrent multi-million dollar projects with cross-functional stakeholder management up to Senior Vice President and Cxx.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project manage using a mix of internal staff and 3rd party suppliers to successfully deliver projects in a matrix management environment, through active sponsorship and stakeholder management to meet agreed time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Work with stakeholders, across COO and the wider Inmarsat organisation, to develop project management assets in compliance with the COO Project Delivery Framework across each phase of the project.
  • Design the project work streams and implementation methodology.
  • Develop, manage and control Risks, Assumptions, Issues, Dependencies and Actions appropriately carrying out effective and proactive risk, issue & change management.
  • Proactively planning, managing and controlling project budgets.
  • Create and maintain detailed level project plans.
  • Ensure all team members understand their roles, responsibilities and deliverables within the overall plan.
  • Drive collaboration and teamwork to execute the plan and monitor progress against the plan.
  • Organise and chair steering groups of senior management stakeholders to provide status reporting and assist with risk, issue & change management.
  • Provide accurate and timely status reporting to key stakeholders including the COO PMO.
  • Work as part of a wider team of project managers to collaboratively develop and continuously improve standard project governance process and procedures along with on-going compliance.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

You will require exceptional planning, organisation, analysis, documentation, stakeholder management and inter-personal skills as you draw together a complex spectrum senior internal customers, project managers and technical specialists within the programme to deliver your assigned projects.

We are seeking a strong, energetic and proactive individual to help critical stakeholders adopt change in a fluid and challenging environment, adding value at every turn.  Ideally you’ll have experience of both Waterfall and Agile project methodologies with certification from appropriate project management certification bodies i.e. PRINCE2, PMP, APM, etc.

  • Experience working in an IT/Telecommunications role with proven background of managing complex projects to time, cost and quality.
  • Project delivery using Waterfall and Agile methodologies as well as other best practices.
  • Experience working with outsourced and internal delivery units.
  • Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with ability to build relationships with technical, business and senior management stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce project documentation – project charters, work breakdown structure, risk logs, change management etc.
  • Ability to design, plan and lead cross-functional project workshops.
  • A high degree of organisation skill with excellent attention to detail.
  • A high energy level with a dynamic, positive and ‘can do’ style.
  • An ability to work under pressure against short timescales.
  • Experience using Microsoft Project / MS Project Server.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in the telecommunication industry and related IT systems.
