Job Purpose

  • To play a leading role in the transformation of Inmarsat to a data driven organisation
  • To design, evolve and deliver a roadmap of both internal and external facing analytics solution that is agreed with key stakeholders and aligned with a clearly defined strategy and end goals
  • To lead a Centre of Excellence which support the design and implementation of analytical solutions
  • To develop the data scientist and analyst community from across the business together into a cohesive and self-learning team

Role Accountabilities

Delivering a Data Driven Organisation

  • To collaborate with the key stakeholders in the business units and business functions to agree a strategy with defined end goals to materially increase the use of data and analytics in business decision making
  • To capture and understand business priorities and build a roadmap against that that delivers analytics solutions with demonstrable business value
  • Lead the BI & Analytics steering committee that prioritises initiatives that are brought before it and approves the long term roadmap
  • Working initially with financial data sets to improve insight into financial performance but quickly moving into broader areas
  • Work with the Digital Office and the Business Units to support evolving data value chain proposition to customers
  • Support the building of a partner ecosystem that can collaborate with Inmarsat to open up new revenue generating opportunities
  • Implement data and access security governance processes in agreement with the executive direction

People leadership

  • To lead an Analytics Centre of Excellence of 4 – 6 people that has responsibility for :-
    • Business requirements capture and documentation
    • Central pool of Data Scientist and Analyst resource
    • Technical ownership of the Open Data Platform and other legacy platforms until they are decommissioned
    • BI and Analytical tool training and administration
    • Finance budgeting/forecasting/reporting system “Adaptive Insights”
  • To evolve and develop the business wide ‘Analyst Community’
    • Empower and enable the relevant Inmarsat employees to meet their business units or functions priorities
    • Working closely with the key analysts to address their current and future skill gaps

Key Skills Required

  • Worked in an analytics role in a business with leading BI/analytics capability – knows what good look like
  • Able to demonstrate examples of involvement in the end to end delivery of a BI and Analytical solutions from concept through to implementation
  • Previous experience in leading complex data transformation projects in a large organisation
  • Worked with financial data sets sourced from SAP
  • Demonstrable management experience of BI, Data and Analytical teams, work streams and projects including Data Engineers, Data Scientists and Data Analysts
  • Effective collaboration with end business users and IT delivery & support teams
  • Closely connected external network of thought leaders and developers in BI & Analytics industry
