Job Description

Primary purpose of the position:

The primary purpose of the position is to lead and manage the delivery of financial planning across the group, including monthly forecasting, annual budgets and annual Long Range Planning exercises. In addition there will be ad hoc FP&A analytical work to support commercial decision making.

Job Requirements

Annual Group Planning Cycle (c. 50%)

 

  • Ownership of the group consolidation planning models, including group long-range business plan model to be updated in detail biannually and forecast model to be updated monthly and group budget to be updated annually.
  • Working closely with the financial reporting manager to review and validate the monthly forecast
  • Coordinate and challenge business unit budgets, forecasts and Risk & Opps submissions to group planning/forecasting team. Management of timetable and process.
  • Liaise with senior finance leads from around the business to ensure accurate and timely submissions during the planning process.
  • Produce regular group forecast/planning reporting for inclusion in monthly management reports/board reporting
  • Assist in development of group forecasting processes including development of Group Budgeting System Adaptive Insights
  • Using forecast models to produce scenarios around potential transactions, refinancings etc, liaising with commercial and technical departments as necessary to ensure that developments are accurately reflected
  • Maintaining ownership of the distributable reserves model to be updated biannually and as required by senior management
  • Use the models to provide year end impairment testing and going concern paper. Contribute to other year end audit issues
  • Drive the change and evolution of the planning process with inclusion of cash flow, balance sheet, working capital, non financial metrics etc.

 

Business partnering support to Executive Team (c. 50%)                                                                       

  • Ad hoc M&A and other decision support including developing excel-based models for potential M&A and other business development projects to support internal and external valuation analysis, and model potential impact on the Inmarsat business
  • Working with the Business Unit Finance VP’s on ad hoc projects
  • Ad hoc business performance investigations/ projects
  • Developing processes to support business decision making
  • Business case preparation and review
  • Analytical work to support procurement activities
  • Analytical work to support bonus/ incentive plans aligned to generation of value

Essential knowledge and skills:

 The ideal candidate is likely to: 

  • qualified accountant with minimum of five years post qualification experience
  • experience of business partnering / working in a business unit alongside commercial teams budgeting / forecasting
  • clear understanding of both accounting and commercial drivers underlying financial statements
  • possibly have transaction/due diligence experience; may have an MBA
  • understanding of risks involved in corporate acquisitions and other business projects
  • good communication skills to present findings in written, PowerPoint, spreadsheet and verbal format to senior management including members of Executive Management Board
  • ability to swiftly obtain a clear understanding of business issues from non-financial parties inside and outside Inmarsat
  • self-starter able to set an agenda that adds real business value
  • be able manage ambiguity
  • ability to see the linkages and dependencies across a multi sector, multi country group and there by identify risks and opportunities early
  • strong Excel skills and experience of financial modelling
