Job Description

Primary role purpose:

Provide the VP Finance, Aviation with a comprehensive financial reporting and financial management capability; both directly, and by drawing on the shared services provided elsewhere within the Finance organisation.  Act as the primary interface to the Group finance organisation on matters such as monthly reporting and forecasting, transaction processing and financial operations, accounting, billing, tax, and treasury / forex.  Ensure that the operations of the ABU are well coordinated with the wider Group, taking advantage of synergy opportunities and ensuring that the ABU works seamlessly and constructively with the rest of the Group.

Work closely with the VP Finance to build and deliver the budget for the business unit that are in line with the overall Group strategy and direction.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Monthly Reporting. Development and production of monthly reporting pack for Aviation Leadership Team (ALT) and Group Executive (Monthly Business Review, MBR)
    1. Support the VP Finance to ensure that the actual financial and operational results of the BU are provided to the BU management team on an accurate and timely basis together with a concise, action orientated, business focused commentary.
    2. To systematically and objectively review the performance of the business both actual and forecast, working with the VP Finance to ensure that all material issues, risks and opportunities are promptly identified and addressed.
  2. Business Partnering. Act as business partner to the Cabin and Core parts of the business providing financial and commercial support.
    1. Core consists of Business and General Aviation (BGA) and Safety and Operational Services (BGA) businesses (via channel partners such as SitaOnAir and Rockwell Collins)
    2. Cabin consists of Indirect deals via channel partners and also Direct business with airlines. Support to the direct business requires provision of contract management support as well as ensuring financial transactions are recorded appropriately and providing P&L information to support decision making.
  3. Budgeting and Long Range Business Planning (LRBP, 5 year plan). Lead the budget and LRBP process for the ABU and take a lead role in ensuring that the ABU has in place a high quality budget and LRBP that reflects all relevant material issues and business plans, is consistent with and delivers the results required by the Group, is prepared on a timely basis and is owned by BU line management.
  4. Financial analysis. Support the VP Finance to proactively and reactively provide ad hoc financial and operational analysis and advice that will help the BU President and AET to deliver optimal operational performance through high quality strategic and tactical business decisions.
  5. Business performance management. To play a proactive, catalytic, business and action orientated role in the ABU, by supporting the VP Finance to efficiently deliver the best medium term financial and operational results possible from the ABU.
  6. Interface to Group Finance and Business Intelligence (BI). Working with Group finance, ensure that the Group accounting, transaction processing and billing capabilities (together with other processes) are appropriate for the needs of the ABU.
    1. Sponsor and motivate improvements in core financial capability where required to support the ABU (e.g. billing, time recording, direct / indirect cost analysis)
    2. Sponsor and motivate improvements in BI (e.g. dash-boards, data-structure, and data integrity) and drive adoption / roll-out to users in the ABU.
  7. Business case preparation. Be proactively involved in preparation for BGA and SOS business cases, taking a lead or support role as necessary but always ensuring that a concise high quality business case is prepared in support of all major business Together with the VP Finance, ensure that the actual financial return on major BGA and SOS capex and other projects is monitored against the originally planned outcome and that necessary action is taken accordingly.
  8. Team management. Develop a small team of analysts as necessary to support the above


Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Graduate with professional accounting qualification or equivalent.
  2. Progressive experience in accounting, business partnering, financial reporting and analysis within quality companies.
  3. Superior analytical skills coupled with good strategic business understanding leading to key business insight.
  4. Ability to draw high quality analysis out of the results that drive decisions in the BU.
  5. Strong people skills, confident and comfortable at engaging collaboratively in an intellectual and multinational environment at all levels. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  6. A commercially astute individual, the candidate must be technically strong, and influential with the ability to operate at both strategic and operational levels.
  7. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with passion for excellence and innovation.
  8. Proactive individual with the ability to effectively manage various projects while adhering to deadlines.
  9. Have a good appreciation of core best practice financial accounting standards, policies, processes and systems.
