Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Role:

The primary function of this role is to work as part of a team to provide technical expertise in satellite connected networking edge solutions design, system installation and post-sales support to Inmarsat clients as well as internal IT support as part of the Global Government Solutions engineering team operating out of the Inmarsat Auburn office.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Internal systems and customer-facing networks maintenance
  • G2 Solutions airtime systems and airtime customer support ( Legacy TC Comms DP and G2 VAR)
  • IT support of G2 Solutions internal systems (APN & SVN routers, firewalls, servers)
  • Pre-sales support activities
  • New edge products and services design
  • Support client demonstrations, training events and exhibitions
  • On site and workshop technical inspections, repairs, installations and maintenance of networking equipment, satellite terminals (aero, marine, land) and other associated hardware.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Must be educated to Electronics trade Cert 4 standard or equivalent industry experience with tertiary education as a minimum, have experience in IT, satellite communications, networking and a working knowledge of Microsoft, Linux operating systems.
  • As this position directly supports Inmarsat customers in a global community who operate 24/7 networks and systems, it is essential that working hours are flexible. The staff-member in this role will be expected to work with their line manager to adjust working hours to deliver services as required by the role while maintaining a satisfactory work – life balance.
  • Must be prepared to participate in the 24/7 roster for end client engineering support.  This team provides contracted telephone support to end users of mobile satellite systems and solutions as well as engineering support of internal networking infrastructure supporting these users.
  •  As this role requires travel, both domestically and internationally, the staff-member in this role will be required, on an irregular basis and provided reasonable notice, to travel sometimes for periods exceeding 7 days, and if required to travel on weekends to meet on-site weekday commitments.
  • Ability to prepare and deliver technical presentations and reports to both internal and external clients on edge solutions as well as network events or outages.
  • Must be committed to on-going personal development.
  • Must be able to understand and advocate compliance with Inmarsat WH&S requirements.
  • The post-holder must be able to analyse communications issues and devise solutions for clients requiring service and support from Inmarsat.  They must be self-motivated and be able to motivate their peers to achieve required task and project completion to BEST standard in a busy environment
  • Suitable background to qualify and maintain an Australian Defence security clearance – must currently hold and maintain Australian citizenship.
  • The post-holder must have and maintain a Current Australian drivers’ license and passport

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience and / or formal qualifications in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • Project Management experience
  • Certifications in IP Networking
  • Cisco certification to CCNA or equivalent
  • Microsoft, Linux, Asterisk certifications.
  • VSAT certification
