Job Description

Primary role purpose:

Inmarsat has an immediate need for a qualified Requirements Engineer to join the Airline Cabin Product Management team based in London

The Requirements Engineer has the primary responsibility of eliciting, analysing, validating, specifying, verifying, and managing the system user requirements from the project stakeholders. They also have responsibility for developing clear, consistent and testable acceptance criteria.

Job Requirements


  1. Requirements elicitation: work with stakeholders to understand, clarify, capture and refine their high level business requirements.
  2. Requirements analysis: analyse, iterate and disaggregate the high-level business requirements into detailed system requirements.
  3. Ensure the system requirements are correctly assessed and prioritised – and that this is communicated to the development team.
  4. Determine appropriate performance measures for each system requirement so that they can be tested.
  5. Ensure thorough requirements traceability is in place from business requirements to system requirements to solution design to test plans/cases.
  6. Support test teams with interpretation and clarification of specific product requirements.
  7. Define acceptance criteria for post implementation testing
  8. Ensure the programme scope is tightly managed and where appropriate change requests are raised to reflect scope changes.
  9. Develop and maintain requirements management processes.
  10. Feed into the programme risk register in terms of identifying and mitigating scope risks, issues and dependencies.
  11. Support change management activities in terms of the implementation and launch of the customer’s connectivity service.
  12. Ensure the engagement of all necessary stakeholders in the gathering, analysis, management and approval of system requirements – perform programme stakeholder analysis.

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Degree or equivalent
  • Experience in requirements management in commercial aviation and/or telecoms and /or software design
  • Prior experience as a Requirements Engineer is a must
  • Strong knowledge in software requirements management and good understanding on software architecture
  • Good communication skills at all levels of an organisation.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of the technical and commercial constraints of delivering services within an airline cabin environment.
  • Strong analytic skills and excellent communication skills (written & verbal) are essential
  • Capable to work independently and as well as can be a good team player
  • Excellent attention to detail
