Job Description

The Product Manager provides product leadership, vision, clear product strategy and market focused product plans to drive profitable growth. The Product Manager owns product roadmaps and will lead development teams with a strong focus on customers’ commercial requirements in the context of a broad view of the overall market.

A Product Manager must bring extreme clarity to the engineering development teams by providing them with a clear vision of what the product is required to do and in what timescale.
The Product Manager is responsible for the complete product lifecycle including customer commercial requirements, roadmaps, business plan, pricing, launch planning, in-service requirements and end-of-life planning. The product lifecycle must be routed in customer requirements and also align with the growth strategy of Inmarsat.

The Product Manager works closely with market focused sales and business development groups to understand and shape customers’ future plans and create requirements for our existing and future products.
The Product Manager ensures that product releases arrive on time and manages the process with replicable efficiency and KPI definitions for project tracking.

Job Requirements

The product manager is responsible for the complete lifecycle, product roadmap, commercial requirements, positioning, pricing and give clear leadership to the development teams explaining the vision and requirements of the customers.

Management of value propositions and business plans consulting with the commercial group and the business unit.

Management of product launch plans and post launch plans.

Construction and refinement of roadmaps, high level business objectives in response to the market & customer requirements.

Creation of product documentation related to functionality, features, market introduction, positioning, differentiation, value propositions

The product manager will create and describe of the go-to-market channels, partners and support the business units who will implement the go-to-market plans.


Requirements Management:

The Product manager spends time embedded within the development teams to drive developments according to product roadmap. The PM will give the commercial requirements and lead this team with a clear vision that describes what the product will do and manages product roadmaps and features as part of product backlog.

Roadmap: Management of product requirements (product backlog) in the context of the committed product roadmaps, timelines and available engineering resource.


Business Unit / Customer: Identify, gather and organise core requirements for major projects working closely with Inmarsat’s sales, business development teams and development teams.


o New Requirements: Manage emerging and new requirements as part of the product roadmap being careful to balance tactical requirements against strategic objectives
and profitable outcomes.

Release Management:


New Products: Preparation of marketing, commercial, technical templates in support of marketing, launch and release planning of new products. Coordinate with delivery engineers and operational departments in preparation for launch and the operation of new products.

Existing Products: Prioritisation, selection, scoping and change management for new features in existing products.

Change and Governance:


Improve product management by implementing a clear, consistent, scalable PM processes.

Instigate systematic reporting of key decision and progress against key milestones.

Agree roles and responsibilities of PM with other departments to define the scope of the PM responsibility.

Review and refine the product management process and associated tools, documents, templates and core responsibilities and KPI metrics.
Ensure that the PM process is understood and respected.

Pricing and Product Portfolio Management:


PM will define the pricing in close consultation with the Business Unit. PM and the BU will look for new revenue models (e.g. recurring & service) in addition to usage, bandwidth and subscriptions. The Commercial Group will ultimately test and approve the pricing models.


Annual review of the performance of their portfolio of products.
Production of total market view and the market relationship to the business objectives of Inmarsat.


Provide vision, thought leadership and long range market view in support Inmarsat’s growth objectives.


Obtain full consensus on vision and commercial product strategy.
Understand and analyse our customers’ broad requirements now and in the future.


Provide and share competitive intelligence, market reporting and analysis of macro trends.
