Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to power the architecture process in the Product Technology group in Chief Product Office (CPO) by leading the design and architecture of products to meet market demands. This position will have a primary focus on API and data architecture, responsible for designing and implementing API solutions and strategy, API adoption process within the organization, and data model for all digital products that Inmarsat offers.

 The successful candidate is required to demonstrate a thorough grasp of systems thinking and the ability to understand, interpret and adopt new technical information. He / She must be able to lead and guide solutions that fully integrate with existing IT and product architecture to meet business demands. The successful candidate must have a holistic view and understanding on operational complexity, security, public & private cloud, and systems management. He / She must have a demonstrable interest in new technologies and product innovation, and a practical understanding of the technology development lifecycle and be able to participate at the appropriate point in a matrix management environment.

The successful candidate is required to work in conjunction with CTO Network design team & COO GroupIT teams. Apart from collaborating with the development teams in CPO, the role requires active participation with the Business Units, Product Managers and internal and external Subject Matter Experts.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology leadership role for the development of the API & Data architecture for Inmarsat digital products;
  • Provide technology roadmap for the API strategy and data model frame work;
  • Track industry trends for parallels that should be evaluated in order to stimulate additional value creation, including major technology developments that push our own development cycle;
  • Build and maintain relationships with key business stakeholders for a pan organisation architecture alignment;

 

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant science or technology field
  • Experience as both a hands-on architect and a software engineer in the following domains:
    • API management platforms such as Apigee, Strongloop, AWS API Gateway, Mashery etc.
    • Database (SQL server/Oracle/MySQL/MongoDB/Cassandra)
    • SOA, ESB, and Design patterns;
    • Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tools
    • First-hand experience with AWS and/or GCP;
  • Superb analytical skills and the ability to bring them to bear on a new subject or requirement to rapidly identify key drivers, features, implementation choices and pitfalls. Data driven and precise, you will be able to constantly replace this knowledge to match a highly dynamic market.
  • Strong experience in data modelling techniques and conceptual, logical & physical and their practical applications;
  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience in API management platforms and API related activities: requirement analysis, solution architecture and design, resource-based API modelling, micro-services architecture;
  • Knowledge on API design standards by standard bodies such as TM Forum, OpenAPI and their best-practices;
  • Knowledge on APIs applied to business: API Economy, Monetization / Billing, Industry use cases, and customer-centric” APIs requirements;
  • Knowledge of Redhat Openshift environment is desirable;
  • TOGAF certified will be desirable;
  • Ability to matrix-manage a diverse set of colleagues as a project moves through the various stages of investigation, business case development, architectural development, implementation, improvement and retirement.
  • Be able to communicate in market features and drivers terms with commercial colleagues including Business Unit Presidents and business development leads.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, willing to keep options open for as long as productive analysis is occurring, within timelines appropriate for the needs of the business;
  • Articulate and engaging written and presentation skills are considered gating criteria;
