Job Description

Primary role purpose:

The primary purpose of this position is to power the architecture process in the Product Technology group in Chief Product Office (CPO) by leading the design and architecture of software products to meet market demands. This position will have a primary focus on software architecture, responsible for designing and working with the engineering team to implement and tailor the solutions to meet customer demands.

The successful candidate is required to initially work on key Inmarsat Edge device which is a platform to manage RF layer failover, host 3rd party applications, and maintain secure communications between the shore and edge via satellite link. He/She will have the responsibility to drive and guide the specification and implementation for all technical aspects of the software architecture for this key product.

The successful candidate is required to demonstrate a thorough grasp of systems thinking and the ability to understand, interpret and adopt new technical information. He / She must have a holistic view and understanding on operational complexity, security, and systems management. He / She must have a demonstrable interest in new technologies and product innovation, and a practical understanding of the technology development lifecycle and be able to participate at the appropriate point in a matrix management environment.

Apart from collaborating with the development teams in CPO, the role requires active participation with the Business Units, Product Managers and internal and external Subject Matter Experts.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technology leadership role for the development of the software architecture for Inmarsat digital products;
  • Provide technology roadmap for the software development strategy;
  • Track industry trends for parallels that should be evaluated in order to stimulate additional value creation, including major technology developments that push our own development cycle;
  • Build and maintain relationships with key business stakeholders for a pan organisation architecture alignment;

 

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in relevant science or technology field;
  • Demonstrable experience as both a hands-on architect and a software engineer in the following domains:
    • Solid C++ programming skill;
    • Deep firsthand experience with Linux, Docker, Ansible, Jenkins;
    • Knowledge and firsthand experience on network routing and protocol;
    • Knowledge and experience with CI/CD tools
    • First-hand experience with AWS and/or GCP;
    • Frist hand experience with deploying Kubernetes and Openstack;
  • Familiarity with at least one messaging technology. Experience using existing libraries, frameworks, and RESTful APIs to create complex applications;
  • A rich breadth of experience in testing web, API and mobile fundamentals.
  • Experience in handling embedded system is desirable;
  • Knowledge of Redhat Openshift environment is desirable;
  • TOGAF certified is desirable;
  • Ability to matrix-manage a diverse set of colleagues as a project moves through the various stages of investigation, business case development, architectural development, implementation, improvement and retirement.
  • Be able to communicate in market features and drivers terms with commercial colleagues including Business Unit Presidents and business development leads.
  • Creative thinker and problem solver, willing to keep options open for as long as productive analysis is occurring, within timelines appropriate for the needs of the business;
  • Articulate and engaging written and presentation skills are considered gating criteria;
