Primary role purpose:

For 35 years Inmarsat has provided satellite services to Enterprise markets worldwide. Inmarsat Enterprise is dedicated to developing systems and solutions to meet their specific needs for voice, data and video services worldwide across and growing their global IoT capability.

As Inmarsat expands into new markets the Enterprise Business Unit is expanding its IoT capability and building a suite of managed services to focus on target market verticals.

We are currently recruiting for a Market Research and Competitive Intelligence Manager to join the Business Development team within Inmarsat’s Enterprise business unit.  The Enterprise business unit addresses a very diverse and growing range of vertical market sectors, each at various levels of maturity and opportunity for Inmarsat, through multiple channel partners globally.  These sectors include Energy, Mining, Transportation, Aid & NGO, Events and Agritech. Much of the Enterprise business unit’s go to market strategy centres around delivering increased levels of value to customers within our target sectors through the effective deployment of Industrial IoT.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for delivering and interpreting externally sourced, market insights and competitive intelligence relating to Enterprise sectors, services and geographies, developing and maintaining detailed knowledge of key trends, drivers and opportunities.
  • Working with the Sector Directors, significantly improve the level of specific, detailed analysis and intelligence of the vertical markets addressed by the Enterprise business unit, along with competitive and market trends, in order to help identify and inform where the greatest opportunities and risks are for our market growth and revenue objectives.
  • Working with the Account Managers & Sales Leadership team, lead the development of a greater understanding of the competitive landscape within the Enterprise channel partner base, including, but not limited to, share of wallet, channel partner positioning in key markets, product capabilities & comparisons
  • Support the effective application of marketing investment by identifying key use cases, buying criteria, Inmarsat service differentiators and developing competitor benchmarking documents that can inform and contribute to the marketing plan, at business unit and sector levels, to ensure that market facing activity is executed as effectively as possible in the context of competitor threats (existing & emerging) and changing market dynamics
  • Proactively engage and communicate with the sales teams as well as the wider business unit to ensure a detailed understanding of Inmarsat’s competitive position at both distribution channel and customer levels and regularly report on how any areas can be improved
  • Undertake or commission market research and competitive analysis to help inform sector strategy, proposition development, marketing and sales efforts.
  • Deliver in-depth analysis on an ad-hoc, project-by-project basis; identifying, qualifying and sizing opportunities to help develop Inmarsat’s business across all Enterprise sectors, services and geographies.
  • Provide inputs into market requirements definition and business case development in order to support and inform business, market and proposition development decisions.
  • Specify, build and maintain a database of market research and competitive intelligence relating to Enterprise sectors, services and geographies, in consultation with key stakeholders in sector strategy and regional sales teams, and establish a mechanism for proactively sharing and providing access to this information

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Significant experience in a similar role in the telecoms / IT industry
  • Experience in highly matrixed organisations; managing the expectations of multiple, diverse senior-level stakeholders
  • Experienced in working with both channel partners and end-customer environments
  • Graduate with honours degree or equivalent
  • Ability to assimilate large and varied sources of information and draw conclusions and recommendations with strategic and /or commercial implications
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge and experience of the satellite communications industry
  • Knowledge and experience in any of the Enterprise Business Unit’s target markets – Energy, Transportation, Mining or Agritech
