Job Description

Primary role purpose:

 The role will report to the Manager Financial Accounting. Responsible for the monthly accounting journals for a number of balance sheet GL accounts along with FX adjustments and financial analysis.  A significant time will be spent on balance sheet reconciliations for the above and follow up with various stakeholders including Payroll team, HR and Group accounting.


Job Requirements

Key responsibilities of the position: 

  • Monthly journals preparation and parking in a timely fashion with the correct back up (workings and approval)
  • Monthly balance sheet reconciliations performed on a timely basis, highlighting any issues and resolving any issues the following month
  • Responsibility for a number of FX postings and the respective analysis, reviewing and following up on movements, ensuring postings are valid and correct
  • Various accrual workings and reconciliations for a number of balance sheet GL account
  • The role requires the individual to become a proficient user for SAP. Tasks will include setting up new GL’s, understanding the technical set up of document types and promoting efficient and best practise use of SAP
  • Other related ad hoc projects:
  • On-going controls compliance in the relevant areas
  • Resolving audit queries
  • Any other tasks as required
  • Maintain collaborative relationships across different areas both within Finance and across other divisions within Inmarsat


Essential knowledge and skills: 

  • Studying towards ACCA / CIMA (part qualified, professional level)
  • Numeracy and analytical skills / Attention to detail
  • Excellent Microsoft Excel
  • SAP experience is a very desirable
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and business concepts
  • Experience of FX Analysis / Intercompany balance reconciliation
  • Organisational skills to meet various different deadlines and demands from stakeholders
  • Articulate and fluent communicator, with a strong command of written and spoken English
  • Be prepared to work longer hours for the 5-6 days around month end

The successful candidate should be keen to study towards an accounting qualification (either CIMA or ACCA) in their own time. Following completion of the probationary period, the candidate is entitled to financial assistance of 75% towards the cost of study, and study leave of 5 days per annum.
