Job Description

Primary role purpose:

Provide robust and efficient analysis to the VP Finance, Operations.  Support the VP Finance, Operations to provide a comprehensive, responsive, commercially focused, high quality, and financial management function both directly and by drawing on the shared services provided elsewhere within the Finance organisation. 

Work closely with the COO Finance Team to build and deliver annual and medium term strategic plans for the BU that are in line with the overall Group strategy and direction.

Ensure that the operations of the BU are well coordinated with the wider Group, taking advantage of synergy opportunities and ensuring that the BU works seamlessly and constructively with the rest of the Group.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support the Finance Manager to ensure that the actual financial and operational results of the BU are provided to the BU management team on an accurate and timely basis. Specifically;
  • On a monthly basis, undertake a review of actual performance vs. budget/forecast with the VPs of each of the COO divisions (supported by the role) and provide a concise business focussed commentary outlining main variances.
  • On a monthly basis, provide consistent and timely financial information to cost centre managers to enable them to control their budgets, to include but not limited to, Cost Centre, Headcount and Charge to Capital reports.
  • Review the monthly variance analysis reports provided by the Finance Operations team to ensure that results are materially accurate. Work with the Finance Operations team to resolve issues arising from the review.

 

  1. Support the Finance Manager to ensure that the BU has in place an up to date, high quality full year forecast that reflects all relevant material issues and business plans, is prepared on a timely basis, shows the road map by which the required full year results will be delivered and which is owned by BU line management. Specifically;
  • On a monthly basis, undertake a review of the forecast with the VPs of each of the COO divisions (supported by the role) and agree any forecast changes with the VPs to ensure BU ownership of the forecast.
  • Once the monthly results have been finalised, undertake a review of the actuals vs. the prior month’s forecast and identify a list of potential forecast adjustments for presentation to the Finance Manager and VP Finance.
  • Undertake a quarterly analysis of the forecast accuracy vs extrapolated run rate to identify areas for improvement.

 

  1. Support the Finance Manager to ensure that the BU has in place a high quality Annual Business Plan and Budget that reflects all relevant material issues and business plans, is consistent with and delivers the results required by the Long Range Business Plan for the BU and Group, is prepared on a timely basis and is owned by the BU line management. Specifically;
    • Deliver training to Operations employees in advance of the budget
    • Support the Finance Manager to develop the business plan timetable and CEO/CFO presentation
    • Critically review and challenge cost centre and divisional submissions vs prior year forecast/targets/Long Range Business Plan
    • Provision of concise analysis of variances to prior year forecast/targets/Long Range Business Plan

 

  1. Support the Finance Manager to ensure that the BU has in place a high quality Long Range Business Plan (LRBP) which is prepared on a timely basis and is owned by the BU line management. Specifically;
    • Work with the Divisional VPs to develop the 5 year plans, identifying and quantifying the key drivers
    • Support the Divisional VPs to prepare a 5 year capex roadmap. Challenge unreasonable cost assumptions
    • Prepare the LRBP presentation

 

  1. Proactively and reactively provide ad hoc financial and operational analysis and advice that will help the COO and his leadership team to deliver optimal operational performance through high quality strategic and tactical business decisions.

 

  1. Proactively provide constructive, high quality commercially focused financial advice to the BU President and SLT in support of the BU goals and performance.

 

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  1. Graduate either studying towards professional accounting qualification or newly qualified.
  2. Three years' of progressive experience in accounting, financial modelling and analysis within quality companies. At least half of the time should have been spent in commercial finance roles.
  3. Superior analytical skills coupled with good strategic business understanding leading to key business insight.
  4. Creative problem solver and decision maker.
  5. Ability to draw high quality analysis out of the results that drive decisions in the BU.
  6. Strong people skills, confident and comfortable at engaging collaboratively in an intellectual and multinational environment at all levels. Strong verbal and written communications skills.
  7. Strong work ethic and ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with passion for excellence and innovation.
  8. Proactive individual with the ability to effectively manage various projects while adhering to deadlines.
  9. Have a good appreciation of core best practice financial accounting standards, policies, processes and systems.
  10. Ability to travel and work across cultures and time zones.
