Job Description

Primary role purpose:

This role requires the individual to work at a managerial level, with specialist knowledge of the Inmarsat brand as part of the Chief Corporate Affairs Office. You will work alongside the Director of Conferences and Events to promote the Inmarsat brand at more than 30 events every year globally. Events include exhibitions, seminars, conferences and internal events, with exhibition stands ranging from 9sqm to 200sqm. This post requires the individual to lead on all logistical aspects of exhibition stand delivery, working alongside business units to advise and direct on best practice standards. All events will be delivered to an excellent, professional standard that enhances the reputation of the company. The role will require global travel to take part in the exhibitions promoting Inmarsat, managing the exhibition space and ensuring a positive experience for all those visiting the stand. This role supports all our Business Unit events for Aviation; Maritime; Global Government; US Government and Enterprise as well as Inmarsat corporate events.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Liaising with Business Units to ascertain their precise event requirements; using specialist knowledge to advise and share insight during the planning and design process, for optimum impact
  • Producing detailed proposals for exhibitions, partner workshops and internal events (e.g. timelines, resource management and budgets)
  •  Advising business units on accurate and efficient budget forecasts, ensuring minimum inefficiencies
  •  Agreeing and managing a budget for all events, using specialist knowledge to advise of best practice to optimise ROI
  • Securing and booking venues, sponsorships and entertainment for events, negotiating the best rates and packages to gain the best value for company investment
  • Managing stand designers, and external contractors; ensuring all individuals have a positive experience of working with Inmarsat
  • Confidently providing constructive feedback to colleagues and external contractors in order to improve standards
  • Planning stand layouts and demonstrations; implementing new ideas based on insight and understanding of the industry
  • Managing and being accountable for key decisions onsite, ensuring that the stand is signed off at the highest standard
  • Anticipating and troubleshooting problems both before and during the exhibition; using initiative and knowledge to overcome obstacles efficiently
  • Managing staffing requirements and leading and motivating support teams’ onsite at events, to ensure a high level of engagement.
  • Delivering comprehensive staff briefings to ensure information is communicated in a succinct and engaging manner to maximise understanding and impact.
  • Liaising with marketing and PR colleagues to promote the event
  • Proactively engaging with specialist team members to gain insight into business developments and competitor insight in order to implement improved ideas for the future.  
  • Managing staff and customer queries promptly and positively, to ensure customer excellence and enhanced brand reputation
  • Building key relationships with partners and customers onsite in order to promote the business and strengthen company reputation.
  • Post-event evaluation (including proactively collecting customer and staff feedback, analysing data and producing reports for event stakeholders).
  • Making connections across different sources in order to implement significant and sustainable changes

 Essential Knowledge and Skills:

You will need to have strong exhibition and event management experience within an in house environment. You must be exceptionally organised and have good attention to detail. In addition, you must be able to multitask coupled with the ability to work well under pressure. This is a multifaceted role and requires a team player who is hands on and who is happy to undertake a wide range of tasks. With a mature and professional attitude, you should be enthusiastic and passionate about your role and be comfortable conversing with a diverse audience. 

  • At least 5 years exhibition experience
  • Professional qualification in Events Management required
  • Effective at building relationships and experience of dealing with multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent project management, organisational skills and ability to deliver to demanding deadlines
  • Enthusiastic team player who can also work on own initiative with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to travel internationally and domestically on business on average 10 times per year

 

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  •  Affinity with telecommunications industry or B2B service provision in commercial environments would be beneficial.
