Job Description

Primary Purpose of the Role:

This is a service design role in which the primary objective is to ensure that onboard and ground support systems are in place to manage the Services contracted by the Airlines from Inmarsat. It is a design and delivery role which will encompass all systems required to ensure effective and manageable connectivity solutions are delivered to airlines and their passengers.

You will be working on a distributed, remotely-controlled system that provides connectivity (passenger, crew, data, voice, video, etc.) to commercial airliners via satellite and air-to-ground connections.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in planning, development of new & existing features of the Inmarsat products
  • Participate in analysis, reporting and fixing software issues
  • Participate in the planning and design of Inmarsat feature development with existing team
  • Participate in the integration of Inmarsat’s components with third party components

Essential Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelors degree or technical diploma from an accredited post-secondary institution within an applicable field, or equivalent experience. Other combinations of education and experience may be considered. 
  • 5+ years of embedded software
  • 3+ years of Java or Python  or C(++) development experience
  • 2+ years’ experience with SQL databases
  • Deep understanding of IP networking, firewalls, NAT and packet filtering (specifically iptables)
  • Deep understanding of modern embedded Linux systems
  • Strong scripting skills: Bash/Python/Perl/etc.
  • Professional experience working in a Linux development environment
  • Experience with git
  • Keen debugging skills
  • Ability to work with a small team in an Linux / open source development environment
  • Ability to work in an Agile development environment
  • Ability to work in Pair Programming environment

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience developing systems to perform well in low bandwidth / high latency (satellite) environments
  • Experience diagnosing the operation of production systems to find hidden faults and performance issues
  • Experience with embedded firewalls
  • Experience in the Aerospace industry
