Job Description

Inmarsat is building software Products for distribution to its partners and customers. Inmarsat needs to establish a DevOps capability and is looking for strong candidates, versed in continuous integration, deployment and operations of the product. We need individuals who can support the cutting edge Software Engineering needs of Inmarsat by automated test orchestration and ensure rapid product development and deployment through an integrated model of continuous integration, continuous testing, and continuous delivery. Candidate will also be required to troubleshoot and resolve build and software issues in our test and production environments. You will be a team member of an agile development process. Candidate requires the ability to interact and communicate collaboratively at the highest technical levels with clients, vendors, partners, and all levels of Inmarsat organization.

Primary role purpose:

You will work in a cross-divisional DevOps team, and interact directly with Software Development Team & Engineers under CPO to create the best possible service in a collaborative environment. You will also interact directly with the Operations Engineers under COO responsible for the infrastructure and operations of the company.  There are no walls, and success is determined by your ability to dive deep, and understand the subtle demands new and complex services will place upon systems and teams.

Initially the roles and responsibility for the team at large is to be able to assume the responsibility of a very large and important project. It's referred to as the Pandora program. Inmarsat has Data Centres at key strategic location across the globe known as shore side and thousands of remote vessels all over the globe out in sea known as edge (these will grow to 10s of 000s. These edge components will be managed via the shore cloud management platform.

Job Requirements


 Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work in a cross functional DevOps team.
  • Support the development of new products and bringing them into operations.
  • Maintain and built DevOps tools.
  • Engage with Developers to ensure the development is done in the DevOps aligned policies to ensure the CICD process.
  • Train developers to use and enhance the CICD environment.
  • Build dashboards, test environments and tools to improve developer efficiency.
  • Be able to identify the root cause of the issues observed in the production network.
  • Where ever possible deliver the quick workaround using scripts deployable on shore or ship side.
  • Manage the deployment of new release in the Pre-Production and Production system. 
  • Capable of working on multiple work assignments, perform well under pressure and to deadlines.
  • Translates business and technical requirements into automation tools and scripts.
  • Maintains and builds on technical knowledge and product knowledge.
  • Comfort with frequent, incremental code, testing and deployment.


Essential Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in computer science, Mathematics or related field or equivalent
  • Experience in leading a team, Self-Driven, be able to communicate internally and externally across the divisions.
  • Familiar with basic programming and be proficient in scripting
  • Be skilled the report for various levels in the organisation.
  • Demonstrated skill and passion for operational excellence.
  • Dynamic, articulate and concise communicator
  • Experience in DevOps processes and tools especially in System operations, Jenkins and automated deployment and test.
  • Working knowledge of security principles – server security, file systems and access control.
  • Good knowledge of Linux OS.

Desirable Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Knowledge of Cisco UCS and networking products.
  • Knowledge of satellite network or Maritime communications.
  • Possibly Practicing ITIL.
  • Telecom Protocols such as TCAP, MAP, SIGTRAN, TCP/IP, RADIUS, Diameter.
