Primary role purpose:

The Aero Performance team is currently looking for a SQL DEVELOPER & DATABASE ANALYST to be based at Inmarsat offices in London. The role is expected to contribute to the overall mission of the Aero Performance team which is: ‘to turn data into insights’.

This role in particular will be tasked with providing data support on the ABU in general and the Service Delivery team in particular by manipulating and extracting data from our Postgres Data warehouse to produce reports and new data sets to serve our clients. Apart from providing front-end data support, the role would also be expected to contribute to our data back-end by writing ETL processes to collect data from our various aviation system sources, validate internal data consistency and correlate/aggregate data from different sources into easily digestible data sets.

Job Requirements

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Extract, analyse, review and interpret data in existing databases to support projects for maximum data accuracy and reliability.
  • Aggregate and correlate complex data sets from a variety of sources into easily digestible data sets.
  • Flag and resolve data issues, and solve data problems by interpreting SQL stored procedures that update our databases, and by analyzing/validating the data in our databases.
  • Integrate data in different formats (e.g., csv, excel, etc.) into our Postgres Datawarehouse with accuracy, efficiency and scalability.
  • Work with our data clients to optimize the insights that can be extracted from the available data.
  • Perform data analysis with comprehensive understanding of the technology involved in providing In-Flight Satellite Connectivity
  • Exemplary work ethics, self-motivation in learning and taking on new challenges to support the challenges facing the team
  • Prepare monitoring scripts for data quality
  • Provide ad-hoc data analysis where needed for internal stakeholders
  • Document technical processes

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in high-tech data-processing
  • Creative problem-solving
  • Good understanding of SQL and ad-hoc query development in Postgres environment
  • Nested SQL queries.
  • Windowing queries (postgres has a distinct flavor).
  • EXPLAIN and how to interpret query plans.
  • Table design optimization: data types, partitioning, when/why indexes are useful, etc
  • PgAdmin
  • Scripting-languages such as Python or Perl

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Experience in performance management for aviation connectivity
  • Experience in telecommunications industry
  • Experience in high-tech data-processing
  • Linux development skills
  • Any experience with web-development like Angular HTML, JavaScript, PHP or any other web-scripting/API technologies would be a pro
