Job Description

Primary role purpose:

Inmarsat is operating across five business units; Maritime, Enterprise, Global Government, and Aviation. We have a wide product portfolio across these, which involves a range of partners, suppliers and in-house production to ensure we are able to bring our products and services to market. As a Buyer at Inmarsat, you will play an integral role to ensure we have the right products available at the right price point where and when required. You will be appointed a product range of which you will hold the primary responsibility for globally.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Actively engaging and working with designated suppliers and partners to ensure we have the products as and when required
  • To ensure commitments are reflected and actively monitor progress to these while handling any deviations in a timely manner
  • Identify and pursue cost optimal solutions and establishment of global distribution for an appointed product range
  • Manage and coordinate delivery issues, i.e. shortages, schedule conflicts and contribute to arrange recovery plans
  • Close cooperation with product management and supplier to ensure alignment and
  • Support regular commercial reviews with external partners and/or suppliers
  • Monitoring of metrics and performance data
  • Maintenance of planning data, herein lead times, transport routing and global distribution lead time, and cost prices in our ERP system (SAP)
  • Contribute in development of tools and processes to support the objectives of Planning & Control

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelor degree in supply chain or logistics, or renown certifications within the field
  • 2-3 years’ experience within purchasing or supply chain management
  • Proficiency in SAP or equivalent ERP systems required, as well as typical office applications
  • Work well under pressure and juggle multiple and changing deadlines in a fast paced environment
  • Reliability and willingness to work extra hours to meet deadlines and support regions in a global team
  • Ability to build strong internal and external relationships
  • Ability and willingness to take initiative
  • Experience in dealing with ambiguity and problem solving
  • Strong and effective communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Excellent English skills, both orally and in writing
  • Accurate, perfectionist nature
