Job Description



Primary role purpose:

  • The job holder is expected to play a leading role in the BI & Analytics Team that will drive the transformation of Inmarsat to a data driven organisation. The job holder will have trained as an accountant but will have had extensive exposure to finance systems.
  • BI & Analytics is broadly split in the team between insight reporting which is seeking to use data to provide answers to specific business questions and performance reporting that is highly structured and provides various levels of management with a regular (generally monthly) insight into business performance. This role is focused on the latter.
  • The incumbent will work closely with the other members of the BI & Analytics team particularly the Finance Systems Manager as well as the Group FP&A Team and BU Finance VPs in delivering comprehensive financial performance reporting. The incumbent is expected to work across a number of systems including ADAPTIVE (Budgeting/Consolidation), SAP and various financial data bases in delivering both high level financial performance reporting e.g. at total product level but also detailed performance reporting e.g by cost centre
  • The incumbent is expected to work closely with the Group FP&A, Financial Reporting and BU Finance teams in identifying business requirements and then deliver the reporting solutions working with the Finance Systems Manager and the SAP team.
  • In executing this role the incumbent is expected to develop a good understanding of the business. Equally the incumbent is expected to be able to work alongside IT specialist to develop effective technical solutions.
  • The role will report to the Head of BI and Analytics which is part of the Group Financial Control Team.


 



 

Job Requirements

General

  • To be the point person for Financial Performance reporting
    • Own the financial reporting roadmap and works closely with the IT team and other members of the BI Team in determining the roadmap
    • Demonstrates best practice with reporting tools and focuses on scale, consistency and excellence
    • Coaches and develops the finance community in using the correct reporting tool and promotes the most effective usage of financial reporting tools within Inmarsat
    • Advises the finance community on the reporting roadmap and how this meet Inmarsat’s requirements
  • Determines which reporting tool should be used for what purpose in the area of Financial Performance Reporting eg. GL Wand, Adaptive, Tableau Discoverer
  • Work closely with the Financial Systems Manager who manages ADAPTIVE
  • Works closely with the other BI Managers to ensure that the less structured insight reporting that they are supporting is complimentary rather than duplicative
  • Builds a detailed knowledge of the various sources of Inmarsat’s internal data sets

 

Solution Delivery

  • Support the development and delivery of reporting solutions in line with the demand of the FP&A team and the BU FVPs
  • Develops a strong grasp of data sources and their availability so that appropriate advice can be given to the FP&A team and the BU FVPs
  • Understands the strategic and tactical priorities for the business units to ensure work efforts are aligned with these
  • Is a key contributor into the BI and Analytics roadmap and assist in driving the deliverables against these

 Finance Community Support

  • To support internal forums for sharing good practise and providing cross learning between business functions on performance reporting
  • To be actively involved in external forums and to impart relevant knowledge and use cases back to the Inmarsat Finance community
  • Deliver ad-hoc training content across Inmarsat. This should be tailored to meet the different levels of user competency

 

Essential Skills

Curiosity and a thirst and determination to understand why. 

  • Qualified accountant
  • Demonstrable expertise of working with one or more consolidation / budgeting tools such as Hyperion, Cognos or SAP BPC
  • Demonstrable expertise of working with a ERP preferably SAP
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Able to demonstrate examples of involvement in the end to end delivery of a reporting solution from concept through to implementation
  • Proven organisation skills with respect to delivering complex reporting solutions including participating in workshops, documentation and end user training. Strong attention to detail
  • Experience in managing teams, work streams or projects during a finance or business change programme
  • Good knowledge of business strategy development, business process management, budgeting and business operations
